Textile recycler Spinnova builds its own spinning mill

The Finnish textile manufacturer Spinnova is further expanding its production capacities at the company headquarters in Jyväskylä. The company, which produces fibers from wood and recycled waste, announced on Monday that it would start building its own spinning mill.

After the completion of the earthworks, construction of the buildings will begin in June, with completion scheduled for spring 2023, Spinnova said in a statement. The textile manufacturer put the total investment volume at around four million euros, of which 2.2 million euros are for machines and equipment. The local project developer Jykia is responsible for the construction, the technology is supplied by the Swiss company Rieter.

The system is intended to simplify research and product development processes and to be able to implement projects with the various cooperation partners more quickly, said Spinnova. The company has already concluded corresponding agreements with well-known clothing suppliers such as Adidas, The North Face, Hennes & Mauritz and the Danish textile group Bestseller Group. A new factory is also under construction in Jyväskylä, which will replace the existing pilot plants and produce Spinnova fibers on a commercial scale. The plant should be operational by the end of the year.
