Cybertruck, Model 3 and Model Y program leaders leave Tesla
Siddhant Awasthi, who led the Cybertruck and Model 3 programs as a long-time employee, announced in a Nov. 10 X post that he was leaving Tesla. He did not give a reason for this decision. Emmanuel Lamacchia, who led the Model Y program, also announced his retirement on LinkedIn in early November.
Lost sales of the Cybertruck
Sales of the Tesla Cybertruck have fallen by almost 40 percent since its media hype in 2023. Registrations of Cybertrucks in the USA also fell by 63 percent in the third quarter compared to the previous year.
According to several media reports, more than 46,000 units were recalled in May. The reason for this was parts of the outer paneling that came loose while driving. In October, around 6,200 units were recalled due to a loose off-road light bar.
According to industry insiders, the Cybertruck represents a costly experiment with major defects. According to European Business Magazine, Tesla sold around 16,000 Cybertrucks in 2025. Musk’s goal of 250,000 Cybertrucks was clearly missed.
Price increase for Cybertruck
Tesla unveiled a new standard version of the Model 3 in October, lowering the starting price for that model to stimulate demand.
However, uncertainty over Awasthi’s successor makes it difficult to meet production targets and deal with falling demand. Despite low demand, Tesla is increasing the price of the Cybertruck by around $15,000.
Elon Musk has big plans
Tesla boss Elon Musk’s plans for the company extend to a market capitalization of $8.5 trillion. This goal is part of a comprehensive compensation package for Musk that was approved by Tesla shareholders in November 2025. However, due to declining sales, Musk’s vision for the company’s future is under doubt from shareholders and the market.
