On Wednesday, Borussia Dortmund’s old new coach Edin Terzic led training for the first time. On the fringes of the start of the preparations, the BVB coach spoke about his promotion, the return of Mateu Morey and the future of Youssoufa Moukoko.
“I said after the interim period that I see myself as a coach again one day,” the “Ruhr news” Terzic: “It came as a surprise that it will be Borussia Dortmund, that it will be again in 2022. In the end it went very quickly.”
The 39-year-old, who led his heart club to the DFB Cup victory as an interim coach in 2021 and then took over the position of technical director, is now planned as a permanent solution on the BVB coaching bench after the separation from Marco Rose after just one season.
Conducting the first training session in front of fans felt good for Terzic. “It’s a very special day for me,” he said.
However, the new coach does not feel any pressure. “We want to make the fans happy, and do it more and more regularly, if possible every three days. And at some point maybe celebrate the really big thing,” said the native of Menden and gave the route for the preparation: “We have to Create a basis and work on a lot of things in terms of content. We have a lot to do with that.”
Terzic is happy for Morey to return
Terzic was particularly happy for the returnee Mateu Morey. The Spaniard destroyed his entire knee in the DFB Cup game against Holstein Kiel in May 2021 and was back in training for the first time on Wednesday.
“We’re really happy that he was able to be on the pitch with us. These stories make you really happy. He was in the hospital, he was in rehab for ages, and today he was finally back on the pitch,” Terzic said happily .
Terzic hopes Moukoko will stay
In the interview, Terzic also commented on the future of Youssoufa Moukoko. The youngster has not yet extended his contract, which expires in 2023.
“He was on the pitch with us today,” reported Terzic: “And he has taken a great path at Borussia Dortmund. Of course, we’re very interested in him continuing it here.”
For the Westphalians, it’s about creating planning security as quickly as possible. If Moukoko decides against an extension in the future, he should be sold in the summer transfer window. In this case, the newspaper brings a transfer fee of around 15 million euros into play.
