Terrifying: suddenly a ghost driver emerges from the fog on the provincial road | Interior

It will happen to you: the visibility on the road is already bad because of the fog, and suddenly a wrong-way driver appears. At the place where you just drove. It happened to Glen (31) from Ghent on Tuesday on the Tractaatweg (N62), between Zelzate and Terneuzen.

He just crossed the border around 12.30 pm and is driving on Dutch territory towards Terneuzen. The cameras that are standard on his Tesla Model 3 show how he maneuvers from the left to the right lane. Just in time, because suddenly there is that other car, driving against traffic in the direction of Belgium.

That steering movement, he says himself, was ‘purely coincidental’. “I had just overtaken someone and went back to the right lane.” That was his luck, he realizes. “I would never have seen that car arrive in time.” The maximum speed on the N62 is – under normal circumstances – 100 kilometers per hour.

The Gentenaar tells it soberly, but he is indeed very shocked. He does have the presence of mind to call 911 right away. “It was probably someone who didn’t see it well in the fog either, and took a driveway that wasn’t a driveway.” He has since calmed down for a long time. “It ended well.” He does not know how it ended with the wrong-way driver: “I reported it, but I have not heard back or seen anything published about it.”
