A week before the start of the Australian Open in Melbourne, Wimbledon semifinalist Maria clearly won her first round game against Australian Talia Gibson 6: 3, 6: 2. Siegemund prevailed against the Czech Tereza Martincova 5:7, 6:1, 6:2.
The two Germans are already qualified for the main draw of the Australian Open and are using the $259,303 event to prepare for the first Grand Slam tournament of the new tennis season.
