Tennis, Wimbledon | Howls: Novak Djokovic provokes the Wimbledon audience with a gesture

The dream final in Wimbledon is perfect, Carlos Alcaraz challenges Grand Slam record winner Novak Djokovic. Both tennis stars won their semi-finals on Friday confidently in three sets, but the Serb not only fought against his opponent, but also against the audience at times.

Novak Djokovic caused several excitement with his sovereign three-set victory (6: 3, 6: 4, 7: 6) against the Italian Jannik Sinner. First, the 36-year-old clashed with the referee, then with the audience.

In the fourth game of the second set, Djokovic was penalized by referee Richard Haigh. The accusation: Seconds after his backhand hit, he moaned loudly and thus disturbed Sinner.

Djokovic then initially reacted with a lack of understanding and discussed it with the referee. Ultimately, however, he took professional note of the decision.

In the winner’s interview, he then said: “The incident could have changed the entire course of the game. I was very nervous and had to collect myself. That was the first time in my career: it has never happened to me before.” He didn’t have the “feeling” that he disturbed his opponent.

Djokovic provokes Wimbledon crowd

When the audience in Wimbledon, who in the hard-fought third set sometimes took sides for Sinner, who got the chance to win the set, Djokovic allowed himself to be carried away by a quite provocative gesture.

The Serb first interrupted his preparation for his second serve and demonstratively waited until calm had returned to the increasingly heated stadium. However, the superstar kept his nerve and fended off his opponent’s set balls. He then put his hand over his eye and grimaced as if he were going to cry in the middle of Center Court, with boos accompanying Djokovic.

Ultimately, however, Djokovic was not at all upset by the two incidents and is now in a final of a Grand Slam tournament for the 35th time. On Sunday he can win his 24th Grand Slam title in the final against Carlos Alcaraz.
