Halep and Pegula advance in the women’s draw, where they are the main favorites
Swedish Mikael Ymer struck down Briton Andy Murray on Monday in the first round of the ATP 500 tournament in Washington, in which, on the WTA circuit, the Romanian Simona Halep and the American Jessica Pegula advanced steadily. Ymer, number 115 in the world ranking, beat Murray by 7-6(8), 4-6 and 6-1 in two hours and 51 minutes of play and ended the tournament for the Briton, double Wimbledon champion and career US Open winner. Murray did not appear to be in great shape and was slowed down by muscular problems, evident already in the first set, which prevented him from competing at his best. Rublev won three tournaments this year, in Dubai, Marseille and Belgrade, and will debut in Washington on Tuesday against the British Jack Draper, number 81 in the world, whom he won the only precedent, this year in Madrid.
