The waiting time outside the Arthur Ashe stage continues to demand the patience of everyone involved, because a few minutes before the start, half the stadium is not even half filled! However, there will be no further delay due to the international TV broadcasts.

The start is delayed
Due to the stricter security measures, Sinner and Alcaraz have to be patient – the start is moved to 8:30 p.m. We take the chance and take a look at the last two Grand Slam final between the two: Carlos Alcaraz achieved a most historical comeback at the French Open when he defended match balls and finally bumped into victory after over five hours. Sinner returned to lawn a few weeks later and defeated the Spaniard in Wimbledon in four sets. There was already an epic duel at the US Open between the two, because in 2022 they delivered a five-set thriller over five hours in the quarter-finals. With the better end for the man from Murcia, who shortly afterwards won his first Grand Slam of his career.

The two best players among themselves
Not only since this year Sinner and Alcaraz have been the measure of all things in tennis: since January 2024 all Grand slams have been going to one of the two players and this year they are facing the highest level for the third time after gripping duels in Paris and London! The two still young protagonists are writing history at the same time-for the first time in the Open ERA, two players are facing three different Grand slam finals in one year. This event cannot be missed by US President Donald Trump, who will be in the stadium at the invitation of Rolex – including increased security measures.

Alcaraz marches into the final
Carlos Alcaraz is again in the final of New York after his success in 2022! And this was impressive from the Spanish Wunderkind: Without loss, the 22-year-old prevailed against Opelka, Bellucci, Darderi, Rinderknech, Lehecka and finally Djokovic! A strong performance by Alcaraz, which in the past has often had start -up difficulties or in the interim phases of weakness in his game. But Spain’s number one has been in impressive form for months, because in the last eight tournaments that Alcaraz played, he was in the final and won five titles. His worst competitor? Without a doubt his opponent Jannik Sinner!

Sinner defends the title?
At the last Masters, the 24-year-old Italian made the hot conditions to be visibly created in front of the US Open, the tournament in Cinncinati. In Flushing Meadows, however, the defending champion has not burned anything over the past two weeks and lost only two sets (one each against Shapovalov and Auger Allsime). On the other hand, Kopriva, Popyrin, Budik and Musetti lost Sinner smoothly. Especially in their own service games and break balls, number one acted extremely cold: 95% of his service games won the man from South Tyrol while converting 53% of his break options. Alcaraz is 98% and 40% for the two values!

The US Open winner will be number one
For both finalists, New York is not only about the last Grand Slam of the Year, but also the leadership in the world rankings is at stake. Last year’s winner Sinner wants to remain number one with a new triumph, while Alcaraz has deserved this exciting starting point due to its strong results in the past few months. Three years ago, the Spaniard was ever the latest number one in the world through his first Grand Slam success in New York, the ATP tour led 36 weeks. Jannik Sinner has been the hunted since June 2024, could give up his placement for the first time at this tournament.
