Zverev joins in the second round

Olympic champion Alexander Zverev is seeded 13th at the $8.8 million tournament in Florida and therefore has a bye for the first round. The tournament begins for the Hamburger against the Japanese Taro Daniel.

Meanwhile, Jule Niemeier continued her negative run on the WTA tour for women. After Indian Wells lost the first round, the Wimbledon finalist also lost her opening match in Miami against Anna Blinkowa 4: 6, 1: 6. Since the beginning of the year, Niemeier has only won two games on the tour.

For Tatjana Maria and Anna-Lena Friedsam, the first round in Miami was already the end of the line. Maria lost to Marketa Vondrousova from the Czech Republic 4:6, 1:6, Friedsam lost to the Chinese Wang Xinyu 6:3, 4:6, 2:6. Laura Siegemund, on the other hand, made it into the second round. She defeated Egypt’s Mayar Sherif 6-3, 6-4 the day before and will face Spain’s Paula Badosa in the round of 64.
