The Dutch tennis professional Tallon Griekspoor celebrated the greatest victory of his career so far and completely robbed his opponent. The Russian world rankings in the world ranking Daniil Medvedev once again let himself be carried away by the ATP tournament in Dubai to let his frustration run free.

Tallon Griekspoor fought like a lion in the quarter -finals of Dubai, fended off a total of four match balls and forced the top seeds Daniil Medvedev after 2:40 hours with 2: 6, 7: 6 and 7: 5. It was the fourth victory of the Dutch against a player from the top 10, but a higher-ranking opponent than the former world ranking listen has never been able to conquer the number 47 of the ATP ranking.

A great success for Griekspoor, for Medvedev a roller coaster ride of feelings. The US Open Champion of 2021, which is known for its freaking, gave his displeasure openly and was documented by referee Adel Nour with a punishment for unsportsmanlike behavior. He then accused Nour “Double Standards” in dealing with Russian players.

However, it is not very surprising that Medvedevs was heated: After the 29 -year -old had confidently secured the first set, he also started perfectly in sentence two, quickly moved to 3: 1, then conceded the rebreak – and nevertheless worked out four chances to close the sack.

At 5: 4 and 6: 5 from Medvedev’s point of view, Griekspoor was able to ward off two match balls.

Griekspoor was “a bit of luck”

In the crucial round, Griekspoor secured the victory when he was able to take the service at 6: 5 in a marathon surcharge with the fourth break/matchball.

“I just tried to stay over, although I left a break in the second set. When I managed to do the rebreak, I felt that the momentum went a little on my side. I was a bit lucky with the match balls and in the tie -break of the second set. I even needed a few match balls myself to end the game,” commented his victory. Medvedev, on the other hand, smashed his racket onto the court, went to the Shakehands with his opponent, but then rushed past Nour without a handshake and left the square visibly.

Incidentally, the fact that Medvedev got together with NOUR has a history: At the beginning of February at the tournament in Rotterdam, the Russian from Nour had received a punishment for exceeding the time limit and then insulted the Egyptian.
