Tatjana Maria was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the tennis tournament in Guangzhou despite a strong fighting performance.
The 36-year-old lost 4:6, 7:6 (8:6), 0:6 against Yulia Putintseva from Kazakhstan on Thursday. Maria was already close to elimination in the tiebreak of the second set when Putintseva had match point. After that, the 28-year-old clearly prevailed in the third set and won after 2:48 hours.

Maria, seeded number three, was the last remaining German participant at the WTA tournament in China. The hard court event is endowed with almost $260,000.
