The end-of-year tournament reserved for the best young men on the men’s circuit returns to Italy: only the official announcement is missing
The Italy of tennis wants everything, and takes everything. We have the world number 1 and three players in the top ten among men and women. We have an organizational model envied abroad. And we have tournaments of every level to show to the public: the Internationals, the ATP Finals, the Davis Cup Final 8, almost a hundred seasonal events considering the smaller circuits. From 2028 we will have a 250 tournament on grass, given that Fitp has purchased the Brussels license. And this year the ATP Next Gen Finals are back, the end-of-year tournament reserved for the best young men on the men’s circuit. It’s certain now: all that’s missing is the official announcement.

After the parenthesis in Milan from 2017 to 2022, in 2026 it will be Italy’s turn again. Saudi Arabia, which had taken over the competition in 2023, decided to exit the contract expiring in 2027 early. The ATP put the product back on the market, Italy applied and has, in fact, secured it. On the other hand, federal president Angelo Binaghi said last month: “At the moment they are offering us everything. It is possible that the Next Gen will also return to Italy for at least a year. And we will work to bring the Billie Jean King Cup to our country too”.

The idea of the Federation, obviously in concert with the ATP, is to reward the passion of Southern Italy, also because Rome has the Internationals, Turin the ATP Finals, Bologna the Davis Final 8. The competition is fierce: Naples, Bari, but Calabria is also moving. Announcement soon. The Next Gen finals take place in December, on the fast indoor track.
