June 17 – 9.36pm – MILAN

Third day of matches at the Golarsa Cup in Milan. The M25 event of the ITF circuit, which will be played until June 20th on the courts of the Golarsa Academy (30 thousand dollars in prize money, clay), has turned the spotlight on two Sicilian brothers: Fausto and Giorgio Tabacco, 24 and 22 years old respectively, the pride of Messina tennis. Together they had won the team championship in 2023, but Milan had already entered their history when between 2014 and 2015 – first Fausto and then Giorgio – they won the U12 Lambertenghi Cup. On the courts of Via Ciclamini they are displaying excellent tennis, so much so that they reach the quarter-finals, with victories against Marcello Serafini (beaten 6-4 6-4 by Giorgio) and Luca Potenza (overcome by his Mxp training partner Fausto 6-3 6-4). “It was a very difficult match for me – explained Fausto Tabacco – we know each other well with Luca and there was a lot of tension. I’m happy with how I handled it, even if I slowed down a bit in the second. I took it home by fighting. It’s a positive moment, I’m trying to find continuity in my tennis and I’m more serene in my approach to matches”. In total there are five Italians among the best eight of the tournament: among them the Trentino Stefano D’Agostino (965 ATP) stands out, who after eliminating the French Florent Bax (number 1 in the draw and 256 in the world) repeated himself against the Bulgarian Radulov.

THE RESULTS

Also good were the Tuscan Gianmarco Ferrari and the other Sicilian Giuseppe La Vela, who interrupted the race of the 18 year old Simone Massellani. “Giuseppe needed to find new solutions to close the point and when we started working we focused precisely on this – explained the coach of the Palermo player, Massimo Ocera –. He has always been a great fighter, but he needed variations, as well as improving his serve. I try to identify with the guys who are on the court, I remember what I would have liked to hear when I was playing and I try to pass on my experience to them”. Another highly experienced coach and former pro like Andrea Arnaboldi was unable to bring his cousin Federico to the quarterfinals: for one of the most awaited players in Milan, the journey ended in front of the Bulgarian Nesterov, seeded number 2. Finally, a comeback was achieved by the victory of another of the favourites: the Norwegian Durasovic against the Italian Lorenzo Berto. Thursday’s program includes the singles quarter-finals and the doubles semi-finals: entry to the Golarsa Academy in via dei Ciclamini 18 is free for the entire duration of the tournament.
