The 33-year-old lost 4: 6, 2: 6 against the Belarusian Ilya Ivashka (No. 11).
After Daniel Altmaier (Kempen), the second German starter was eliminated in the first round.
For Gojowczyk it was a mixed dress rehearsal for the US Open in New York (from August 29). At the tournaments in Atlanta and Washington, the former Davis Cup player was eliminated in the first round.
