Tennis, Ferrero: “Alcaraz? If he asked me to come back I couldn’t say no to him”

Juan Carlos Ferrero has returned to talk about Carlos Alcaraz. The two announced the end of their collaboration at the end of last season, news that surprised the entire tennis world. The Spanish coach, who accompanied the world number one in his growth to the top of the circuit, culminating in the victory of six of the seven Slams he won, did not hide how difficult the separation was. So much so that he even stopped following Carlitos on social media. A choice that the former number one and Roland Garros winner explained during an interview with the program El Cafelito: “I didn’t stop following Alcaraz on Instagram out of spite, but because I needed to distance myself and take some time. The problem is that, when I open Instagram, the algorithm shows him everywhere anyway. In the end I didn’t solve anything: he always appears on social media.”

During the interview, Ferrero also confessed his desire to see the player he helped train and bring to the top of world tennis again. “I would like to meet him and give him a big hug – continued the Spanish coach. – I would say that Carlos and I have a pending chat. The last time I saw him was in Turin, because when we were supposed to meet again after the rest period, what you all know happened. I would like to clarify things with him, normalize the situation and maybe have a game of golf, if that happens.” For the Spaniard, seeing the seven-time Slam champion, now trained by Samuel Lopez, win without him is not easy: “Seeing him play and not being able to be there is painful, even if I hope things go well for him.” Above all, Ferrero (now working as mental coach of the Spanish golfer Ayora) did not close the door to a possible return to Alcaraz’s garage: “What if he asked me to come back with him? They say that sequels are never good, but some films are. In my heart of hearts, I couldn’t say no to him.”
