The top seeded Estonian Anett Kontaveit and the American Bernarda Pera reached the final on Saturday at the women’s and men’s combined tennis tournament at Hamburg’s Rothenbaum. Francisco Cerundolo is the first semi-finalist for the men.

Kontaveit prevailed on Friday in her semi-final against the Russian Anastasia Potapova 6: 3, 7: 5 and reaches for the first tournament victory under the German coach Torben Beltz, once the successful coach of the three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber.

Kontaveit’s opponent in the final defeated Maryna Zanevska from Belgium 6-2, 6-4. Pera had already celebrated her first tournament victory on the WTA tour last week as a qualifier in Budapest. As the last German participant at the Rothenbaum, Andrea Petkovic had given up injured in the quarter-finals on Thursday.

Men: Cerundolo in the semifinals

In the men’s category, Francisco Cerundolo was the first to reach the semi-finals. The Argentinian, who threw co-favorite Andrey Rublev out of the tournament on Thursday, defeated the Russian Aslan Karatsev 6: 3, 4: 6, 7: 6 (7: 4) in the quarterfinals.

Cerundolo thus further underlined his good clay court form, just last Sunday he had won the tournament in Bastad, Sweden. The Argentinian meets Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals on Saturday. The Italian defeated the Spaniard Davidovich Fokina 6:4, 6:3.
