After her recent success, Tatjana Maria was hoping for the next in Wimbledon. However, nothing came of it.

Two weeks ago, the German tennis ace Tatjana Maria triumphed at the WTA tournament in Queen’s. The tennis player had also done a lot for Wimbledon. However, the 37-year-old failed early. At temperatures beyond the 30 degrees, she had to give up the American Katie Elynets in three sets – and thus missed the chance of a successful tournament.

After 2:36 hours it was 6: 3, 6: 7 (4: 7), 1: 6 from the perspective of the Germans. After her surprising semi-finals in 2022, she failed for the third time in a row at the start of the Grand Slam tournament in the southwest of London.

The conditions for a better performance initially seemed favorable: In the direct duel of her possible next opponents, the American Jessica Pegula, which was placed on number three, was surprisingly clearly defeated by 2: 6, 3: 6 against the world rankings 116. Elisabetta Cocciaretto. Pegula had recently won the lawn tournament in Bad Homburg.

Maria, supported by husband and trainer Charles-Édouard as well as the daughters Charlotte and Cecilia, was initially with a break in the first set. But with her variable game, many network attacks and the strongly under -cut balls, she turned the passage – four games in a row secured the set win after 35 minutes.

The second sentence became significantly narrower. After almost 90 minutes, Maria first missed the chance at 5: 4 to get the match through on his own serve. In the tiebreak, too, she left a lead in the 4: 2.

Both players then left the place to protect themselves from the crucial sentence from the sun. But after the break, Maria couldn’t get into play. A quick break against you, a double mistake at the end – and that was sealed. Eva Lys and Laura Siegemund had previously reached the second round of the four German players started. Qualified Ella Seidel should compete in the evening.
