In order to keep rents affordable in the private sector, Minister De Jonge for Housing and Spatial Planning is changing the law that maximizes rent increases. At the moment inflation is still leading; in the new situation, the average wage increase will also become a determining factor. In concrete terms, this means that in times of high inflation, such as now, the maximum rent increase is based on wage developments. In this way, the cabinet wants to better protect tenants in the free sector against extreme price increases.
