At a scrap company on the Helmondsingel in Helmond, a ten -meter -high mountain of waste is on fire on Saturday afternoon. The N279 was closed at Helmond for traffic.

A lot of smoke was released during the fire. That smoke pulled exactly over the N279 between Helmond and Asten. That is why the road in both directions was closed.

The fire broke out in a mountain with metal scrap and presumably created by heating. It concerns small particles of demolition waste from cars. The fire brigade was a platform, water car, and several fire extinguishers on the spot. In consultation with the company, it was agreed that the huge mountain of waste, sixty meters wide and ten meters high, will be cooled by the company itself.

“The difficulty is to get the water in the pile. A number of scenarios are viewed, which is most effective and what causes the least nuisance,” the safety region indicated.
