Tempelhof Sounds will be paused in 2023 – the area will be increasingly used for emergency accommodation for Ukrainian refugees

The Tempelhof Sounds will not take place next year. The organizers announced this on Friday (December 2nd). The rock festival premiered in 2022 with headlining performances from The Strokes, Florence + the Machine and Muse, among others, presented by MUSIKEXPRESS. In 2024, however, the site of the former airport in Berlin-Tempelhof should continue.

The organizer FKP Scorpio cites the decision of the Berlin Senate to increase the number of emergency shelters for refugees from the Ukrainian war as the reason for the cancellation for 2023. This would not only result in a changed spatial division for the placement and design of the festival site, but also new requirements for noise protection. “Unfortunately, a successful approval process for our festival is impossible under these new circumstances,” the statement said.

Of course, the situation of those in need is recognized: “Apart from that, we also think it is humanly necessary to show consideration in this special exceptional situation to ensure that people who need refuge are not affected under any circumstances.”
