Tempelhof Sounds Presents: Bon Iver, Fever Ray & Holly Humberstone at the Berlin Waldbühne

Even if the actual “Tempelhof Sounds” was recently postponed to 2024, music lovers in the capital can look forward to the atmosphere of the festival next year. On June 2nd, the three acts Bon Iver, Fever Ray and Holly Humberstone will give a concert under the slogan “Tempelhof Sounds Presents” in the open air at Berlin’s Waldbühne. The summer night is presented by MUSIKEXPRESS.

One is happy that “the waiting time for the Tempelhof Sounds 2024 can be shortened”, explained the organizer Stephan Thanscheidt. The break has become unavoidable because more space is needed at the closed airport for emergency accommodation for Ukrainian refugees. Thus, an approval procedure would have had no chance of success, among other things for reasons of noise protection.

Indie folk far from civilization

Above all, Justin Vernon is behind the headliner Bon Iver. In 2008 the first album FOR EMMA, FOREVER AGO was released. Marked by the end of a relationship and weakened by glandular fever, he recorded his debut in winter 2007 in his father’s lonely wooden hut – logically, indie folk, far removed from civilization, sounded there. After that, Vernon became a superstar in a lumberjack shirt. Only on his most recent long-players 22, A MILLION (2016) and I, I (2019) did he readjust his music draft, experimenting with autotune and sample beats.

Nightmare-walking electronica

For many years, Karin Dreijer and her brother were one of the central figures in the electronic avant-garde band The Knife, which has since disbanded. Today she appears solo as Fever Ray. The Swede combines attributes of goth with scraps of pop, horror samples and synth sounds. The result: nightmarish Electronica. Her last studio record to date, PLUNGE, was released in 2017.

Rising Star Holly Humberstone

Holly Humberstone became a rising star during the corona pandemic – and subsequently received the newcomer prize of the same name at the “BRIT Awards 2022”. Her mixture of elegant pop and delicate electronic nuances has earned her comparisons with Phoebe Bridgers and has meanwhile arrived on the stages of this world. In October of this year her feature debut CAN YOU AFFORD TO LOSE ME? was released.
