Telstar Women hands out late uppercut to VV Alkmaar

The North Holland derby between Telstar Women and VV Alkmaar was won by the Velsenaren. A late goal from captain Dominique Bruinenberg resulted in the full spoils: 2-1.

Camie Mol unintentionally scored the opening goal after eleven minutes. The defender of VV Alkmaar worked the ball behind her own goalkeeper, Puck Louwes: 0-1. Just before the break it was equalized via Judith Roosjen.

The game seemed to be heading for a draw, but Bruinenberg thought otherwise. She made 2-1 in the 85th minute and that turned out to be the winning goal.

Because of the victory, Telstar remains tenth in the women’s premier league, but it has the same number of points as VV Alkmaar. They will play against leader FC Twente next week, while Telstar will play against Feyenoord. Ajax Women will play tomorrow in the Johan Cruijff Arena against the team from Rotterdam, unique in women’s football.
