Telstar records a narrow practice win at IJsselmeervogels thanks to the Oude Kotte header

Telstar has booked a minimal practice win tonight in its own stadium against second divisionist IJsselmeervogels. The team of coach Mike Snoei eventually won 1-0 with a goal from Thomas Oude Kotte just before half-time.

At Telstar, Glynor Plet and Rein Smit started on the bench and so the attacking danger had to come from test players Cain Seedorf and Yahya Boussakou. Mike Snoei’s tactics had little effect in the first half hour and there were therefore no great opportunities. Just before half time, Telstar came out of his shell a bit more and got an opportunity via Boussakou. However, the effort of the former player of ADO Den Haag was turned by goalkeeper Jaimy Schaap of IJsselmeervogels.

Still, Telstar managed to go into the break with a lead. A free kick by Anwar Bensabouh eventually ended up with Thomas Oude Kotte and the defender headed straight for the 1-0. After tea, Ozan Kökcü immediately had a good chance to double the score. However, the attacking midfielder’s shot was narrowly deflected and went off target. After more than an hour of play, trainer Mike Snoei made many substitutions as usual. Substitute Quinten van den Heerik was closest to Telstar’s second, but it remained at 1-0 in Velsen-Zuid.

Telstar will be back in action next Saturday. Then play the White Lions in a triptych against Koninklijke HFC and Katwijk.

Setup Telstar: Koeman Jr.; Kruiver (Soares/67), Apau (Kuyper/67), Oude Kotte, Bensabouh, Mulder; Najah (Dijkstra/80), Ainsalu (Van Wetten/80), Kökcü; Seedorf (Van den Heerik/61), Boussakou (Overtoom/61).
