Telstar keeps NAC at a draw

Telstar was unable to beat NAC Breda after taking a quick lead. Danny Bakker made it 1-0, after which Tom Boere scored the 1-1 in the final phase.

The start of Telstar was (just like last week) phenomenal. Within fifteen minutes the White Lions the lead against NAC Breda. A corner kick from Tom Overtoom was headed into the goal by Danny Bakker, who left Breda last summer. The visitors were undeterred and had a gigantic chance through Elías Már Ómarsson.

However, the Iceland striker pushed the ball past the post. A blemish on the early lead was Bakker’s retirement. He returned after injury treatment, but ultimately had to abandon the fight. Telstar became dangerous through Overtoom and Youssef El Kachati. However, neither had their sights on focus.

Telstar continued to create the biggest chances after the break. The Greek cleverly cut down his direct opponent, but found the post in his way. Moments later, goalkeeper Roy Kortsmit almost misjudged a shot from Danzell Gravenberch. The missed opportunities ultimately proved fatal for the people of Velsen.

Substitute Tom Boere scored the equalizer. Telstar substituted Quinten van den Heerik, but he was unable to turn the score around. Due to the draw, TOP Oss (2-1 against Jong Ajax), FC Den Bosch (0-0) and Telstar all have 20 points. Jong Ajax will be Telstar’s next opponent in Amsterdam in a week and a half.

Telstar setup: Koeman; Kruiver, Koswal, Plat (Van de Loo/46), Oude Kotte, Peat Kruier; Bakker (Apau/32), Overtoom, Giousis; El Kachati, Gravenberch
