Telstar gives up a large lead in the bizarre final phase and ends in penultimate

The last game of the season did not give Telstar any points. On a visit to number six Roda JC, the White Lions led surprisingly 3-1, but in the final phase it went completely wrong in Kerkrade. The Velsenaren went down 4-3.

Telstar seemed well on their way to take three points from South Limburg when Anwar Bensabouh made the 1-3 in the 67th minute. Thanks to Giovanni’s first two goals in the first half, Andries Jonker’s team already went into halftime with a lead.

The Brazilian thus undone Patrick Pflucke’s quick opening goal. First he hit hard on a pass from Delvechio Blackson. His second was a hard shot into the far corner, again after heavy preparatory work from Blackson.

Terrible Finale

After 74 minutes there seemed to be no problem, but suddenly Roda JC got the ghost. Guus Joppen took care of the connecting goal and five minutes before the end it was 3-3 by club top scorer Dylan Vente. To make matters worse, Telstar also gave away a penalty soon after. Pflucke took advantage of the opportunity and scored the third goal in twelve minutes: 4-3.

Due to the defeat, Telstar finishes nineteenth in the first division with 35 points from 38 matches. Only laster Helmond Sport achieved fewer points: 28.

Telstar setup: doornbusch; Kruiver (Dijkstra/77), Molenaar, Aktas, Bensabouh, Blackson (Vlijter/72); Overtoom, Van Doorm, Kökcu (Zakir/77); Plet, Giovanni (Van Velzen/85)
