Telstar defends itself bravely against Willem II, but goes home without points

Telstar has lost the difficult away match against Willem II with 2-1. The North Hollanders played a fine game, but two standard situations killed Telstar.

Mike Snoei’s men started the match well. The first chance of the match was for Telstar. Koen Blommestijn got the ball in a promising position, but his effort went wide.

Standard situation

In the course of the first half, the home side became stronger. Good defensive work by Oude Kotte and then an excellent save by Koeman prevented a goal. In the 36th minute the Velsense resistance was broken. After a free kick, the ball landed at the feet of Matthias Verreth. The Willem II midfielder completed the 1-0 beautifully.

Anniversary Plet

Glynor Plet equalized in the second half. He tipped the ball neatly over keeper Smits in the 58th minute. For the striker it was his 100th goal in Dutch professional football and his 78th for Telstar in total.

Telstar could not enjoy the equalizer for long. With just over fifteen minutes to go, Max Svensson blasted into the falling ball. Telstar still tried, but couldn’t score anymore. And so the team suffered an unnecessary 2-1 loss.
