Teenagers steal bank cards from older couple

Two boys aged 16 and 17 were arrested on Friday evening on suspicion of debit card fraud. The victims are a 76-year-old woman and her husband from Prinsenbeek. The couple gave the bank cards with PIN codes to the boys who posed as bank employees. Boas discovered the suspects by chance.

On Friday afternoon, a boy called the woman. He warned the couple about so-called skimming, copying bank details. Ironically, the best they could do, he said, was to put the debit cards in an envelope. These would then be picked up by so-called couriers from the bank. In this case the 16 and 17 year old suspects.

Wrong stuff
The victim became aware that something was wrong when a neighbor came to the door and said that the couriers had also knocked on his doorbell. They alerted the police.

By chance, two police officers saw the boys riding a moped. Because one of them was not wearing a helmet, they were stopped. The boys tried in vain to run away and threw something in the street. That later turned out to be one of the stolen bank cards.

Money withdrawn
350 euros were found in the jacket pocket of the youngest suspect, an amount that had just been withdrawn from the victim’s account. That money was returned to the victims by the police involved. The couple has filed a complaint against the boys. The police are continuing to investigate the person who called the couple on Friday afternoon.
