Tears flow at farewell to seriously ill captain Wesley Rollman of SV De Rijp

Tears flowed on the artificial turf of SV De Rijp last night. Captain Wesley Rollman played his last minutes in the football club’s first team. The 31-year-old Rollman has been diagnosed with a brain tumor, which forced him to stop.

In the final phase of the friendly match against Eredivisionist FC Volendam, De Rijper received a change of applause. He took off his captain’s armband and was handed the new FC Volendam shirt from trainer Wim Jonk.

Part of the proceeds from the ticket sales of the exhibition game will go to the crowdfunding campaign that has been started to make expensive medical treatment of the tumor possible.

FC Volendam won the exhibition game in front of more than a thousand spectators 8-0. This afternoon, Jonk’s team will play its next exhibition game. On the field of Alkmaarsche Boys, the Belgian KRC Genk is the opponent.
