Wetzlar (dpa) – National handball team captain Johannes Golla is not afraid of short-term corona infections immediately before the start of the European Championship.

Today’s game against Olympic champion France does not give him any “stomach ache”, given the positive test by captain Valentin Porte with the opponent, said Golla. “The French had the last three days and will do a PCR test before the game. That is the highest level of security that you can go in that case. It will be part of our everyday life again and again in the future,” said the 24- Year olds in the ZDF “sports studio”.

France announced their EM squad on January 7th, but Porte has to remain in isolation for the time being. Golla’s national team colleague Djibril M’Bengue is also counting on the corona measures to take effect at the EM tournament. “Hygiene concepts have been worked out. We are all vaccinated, are still being tested, have been tested now. We are trying to make the best of these sad circumstances,” said the backcourt player.

At the European Championships (January 13th to 30th) in Hungary and Slovakia, Germany will meet Belarus, Austria and Poland in the preliminary round in Bratislava.
