DFB director Oliver Bierhoff was amazed at Olaf Scholz’s criticism and wants to talk to the Chancellor about “equal pay” in German football.

“I’m surprised by the statement. I’m happy to invite him, then I’ll explain a bit about the numbers,” Bierhoff said shortly before the German soccer team’s European Championship game against Spain on Tuesday evening on “ARD”.

The top official of the German Football Association (DFB) responded with this statement to a tweet by the Chancellor shortly before. “It’s 2022. Women and men should be paid equally. That also applies to sport, especially for national teams. Spain is ahead of the game,” Scholz wrote.

Bierhoff referred to the record bonus of 60,000 euros for every German national player and the improved infrastructure for women.
