‘Team Belgium’ looks back on a 100 km journey through the most dangerous jungle in the world: “The funniest thing was when Fly fell with his hole into a nest of red ants”

A week in the jungle of the infamous Darién Gap changes your perspective. What sounded like a challenging adventure beforehand – “100 kilometers through the most dangerous jungle in the world? That will be a holiday” – became a war of attrition for Team Belgium in which heat, humidity and broken feet turned out to be more important than world records or military experience. Kurt Alderweireldt (60), Matthieu Bonne (31), Dries Borstlap (26) and Fly (58) look back on an expedition that pushed them to the limit, but which they did not want to miss for anything. “We laughed at our misery.”
