Taxi company Van Gerwen applies for bankruptcy. The company with branches in the village of Zeeland and Eindhoven informed its employees on Monday. “It’s a black day,” said director Marco van Gerwen in a letter to his staff in the hands of Omroep Brabant. It states that there is no more money to pay wages and holiday pay for the month of May.
According to FNV director Meindert Gorter, between 100 and 150 people work at the company, by far the vast majority of them work part-time.
They were asked to just drive Tuesday, says a driver who wants to stay anonymous. Van Gerwen provides student and patient transport, among other things.
Salary
If the judge declares the company bankrupt, the UWV will take over their salary. FNV consultant Gerrie Fijneman has already had several worried drivers on the phone. “They are all worried about how to proceed,” she says. “They eventually get their money, but not now. And that is annoying if you live from month to month and really waited for it.”
Pay more
As a cause for the upcoming bankruptcy, director Van Gerwen points to high personnel costs and high fuel prices in his letter, but also to Coronaschilden and tax debts. FNV director Gorter is not surprised. “In this sector, 40% of companies do not make a profit. Governments and insurance companies may sometimes pay more.”
Van Gerwen says it is expected that the judge will express the bankruptcy on Tuesday. This concerns transport service Van Gerwen BV and Taxibrainport BV.
Van Gerwen also went bankrupt in 2020, but then made a restart. In 2023 it took over the bankrupt Cibatax from Eindhoven.
