Jim cycled in the night of Saturday 27 November around 00.30 on the Heideweg in Volendam, near Bowling and Partycentrum De Zedde. At that time, a 27-year-old taxi driver from Amsterdam drove at 78 kilometers per hour towards the intersection, where a maximum speed of 50 kilometers per hour applies. While Jim crossed the road from a parking lot, the driver drove him.

According to an eyewitness, Jim was ‘driven away’ and five meters away. Bystanders tried to resuscitate the teenager. He was then taken seriously injured to the hospital, where he was a short time later died of his injuries.

Hugs and flowers

The fatal accident happened near the Don Bosco College, where Jim was in fourth grade. His death loosened a lot in Volendam. Dozens of statements of support appear on Facebook and a special commemorative place was set up at the school, Hundreds of people approached. There were countless Hugs and flowers laid down.

THC in blood

Blood test showed that the taxi driver had almost four times the permitted amount of THC, a substance that sees in weed, among other things, in his body. Moreover, he drove too fast within the built -up area, in a place where parked cars hinded the sight. The court therefore ruled today that the 27-year-old man is to blame for the traffic accident.
