“We are no longer allowed to order filter coffee. That’s how bad the situation is at Tata,” said a concerned manager, who already worked there when the company was still called Hoogovens. “If I want to order something for the shop floor, I need permission from the management. And then you really have to think about, literally, everything.”
Christmas package canceled years ago
The staff at Tata have had to do without a Christmas package since 2019. They have gotten used to that by now. New measures have now been issued by the management. These are served in two parts by the management and are more raw on the roof.
They raised the alarm with NH and expressed their concerns. This list provided insight into how bad the company is really doing, they said. A small selection:
- Order office supplies only through company manager
- No new office furniture
- Cleaning the Dudok Huis, Vogelnest and De Brug offices less often
- No cleaning on top of regular appointments
- Stop window cleaning
- Maintenance only where necessary for safety
A memo also followed from the facility management department. This included, among other things:
- Overtime meals at your own expense (only in case of unplanned downtime)
- No cake orders with the exception of anniversaries and pensions
- No flowers and bouquets with the exception of mourning, retirement and anniversaries
- Filter coffee only for factories, not for offices
- Order home office furniture is only an office chair
Tata has confirmed the existence of the memos to NH and adds: “We look across the organization to save additional costs, leaving the production of our steel and the sale of our steel out of the picture. We are not going to do that. save, of course not on our current environmental improvement measures.”
