Tappara acquired a former NHL player: “Now we found the right guy”

Tappara has acquired 33-year-old Luke Witkowski for its back lines.

Yankee pack Luke Witkowski moves to Tapparaa with a comprehensive contract for the 2023–24 season.

– We have been following the package market for a long time and now we found a suitable partner. Witkowski brings a lot of experience and leadership to the team, Tappara’s sports director Antti Tuomenoksa commented in the club’s press release.

The 188-centimeter and 95-kilogram physical defender played 28 games last season in the AHL club Springfield Thunderbirds with 0+3.

Witkowski has played 349 AHL regular season games and 132 NHL games in his career. In bright lights, the man has represented Tampa Bay Lightning and Detroit Red Wings.

Witkowski has worn the captain’s letter C on his chest for four seasons in different clubs.

According to Tappara, the man will probably be seen in action already on Saturday in the home match against KalPa.

– I am looking forward to playing in Finland. The goals for this season are clear: I want to win everything, as Tappara did last season, says Witkowski.
