Griekspoor will meet the Frenchman Corentin Moutet on Saturday, who eliminated the third placed American Alex Michelsen: 6-4, 7-6 (3). He will play his fifth final. Griekspoor has so far won two titles at ATP level. He won one of them in 2023 on the grass in Den Bosch.
Kristof Vliegen and Tallon Griekspoor have learned from the past: ‘Three -hour conversation was enlightening’
The number 1 in the Netherlands plays his first games on grass of this season on Mallorca. The 28-year-old Greek track missed the tournament in Rosmalen because of an abdominal muscle injury. He suffered the injury during Roland Garros, where he had to give up in his party in the fourth round against Alexander Zverev.
“I had to survive the first set and get rid of breakpoints,” Griekspoor responded. “I found Félix to serve incredibly well and play quickly. In the second set I was able to play my game a little more and I started serving better myself.”
The conditions in Mallorca are heavy. “It’s incredibly warm this week, it’s getting used to,” Griekspoor continued. “I unfortunately had to miss the first two weeks of the grass season. Fortunately, I was able to play three games this week and it will be four. That is the ideal preparation for Wimbledon. I am happy with the level I am achieving. I look forward to tomorrow.” The 26-year-old maltet is the number 83 in the world, Griekspoor takes the 34th place. It will be the first meeting between the two.
Draw Wimbledon
Today there was also a draw for Wimbledon. Griekspoor plays against the American Jenson Brooksby in the first round.
Griekspoor is placed 31st and therefore avoids higher opponents placed in the first round. His opponent Brooksby is currently in 149th place, but once stood 33rd. Griekspoor and Brooksby did not play against each other before.
Wimbledon starts with American challengers for Tallon Griekspoor, Jesper de Jong, Suzan Lamens and Arantxa Rus
Iga Swiatek reaches the final after more than a year
After more than a year, Iga Swiatek has qualified for a final of a WTA tournament. The 24-year-old Polish did that in Bad Homburg in Germany, where she dealt with the Italian Jasmine Paolini in the half final battle: 6-1 6-3.
For Swiatek, who last year on Roland Garros for the last time, it will be the 27th WTA final and the first on grass. She plays against Jessica Pegula. The first-placed American fought against the Czech Linda Noskova from a backlog: 6-7 (2) 7-5 6-1.
In Eastbourne, the unplaced players Maya Joint from Australia and the Filipino Alexandra Eala reached the final. Eala is the first tennis star from the Philippines in the final of a WTA tournament.
Fritz and Brooksby in final Eastbourne
The final of the Eastbourne ATP tournament goes between two Americans. The first placed Taylor Fritz was too strong in the semi-final for Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (6-3 3-6 6-1) and Jenson Brooksby eliminated the Frenchman Ugo Humbert with 6-7 (7) 6-4 6-4.
