Earlier this week, the Greek track already defeated the Swedish qualifier Mikael Ymer and the German Alexander Zverev, the Olympic champion of Tokyo. Brouwer caused a stunt in the second round by eliminating Holger Rune. The Dane, number 9 in the world, gave up injured in the second set with a 4-0 deficit after he had already lost the first set. Brouwer is ranked 160 in the world rankings. Just like the Greek track, he was admitted with a wild card by tournament director Richard Krajicek.

The first semi-final in Ahoy will take place on Saturday afternoon between the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov and the Russian Daniil Medvedev, who eliminated the Canadian title defender Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarter finals. In the evening, the Greek track will face Sinner, the number 14 in the world, for the first time in his career.

,,I will have to play better than today. If I can return to the level that I can play against Zverev on Wednesday, I have nothing to lose,” said Greek track. ,,A full Ahoy, then I am at my best. Hopefully I can show it again Saturday night. Sinner will feel more pressure than I do. I’ll have the audience with me. Hopefully the fans can also make it a bit difficult for him.”

Greek track is the first Dutch semi-finalist at the ABN AMRO Open since 2014. Nine years ago, Igor Sijsling reached the last four in Ahoy and since then no compatriot has made it that far. In 2014, Sijsling lost in three sets to the Croatian tennis player Marin Cilic, who had to face the Czech Tomas Berdych in the final a day later. Greek track can become the first Dutch finalist since 2003. Then Raemon Sluiter, coach of the Greek track until the end of last year, reached the final in his hometown. Shutter had to lose out to Maks Mirni from Belarus. The last Dutch winner dates from 1998. A quarter of a century ago, Jan Siemerink was the best in Ahoy.
