With “The Color Of Spring” Talk Talk transcended their synth-pop of their early years and found a complex art-pop style with hints of jazz, ambient, classical music, folk and blues. It formed the framework for the subsequent classics “Spirit Of Eden” and “Laughing Stock”.

Now the remaining members after Mark Hollis’ death in 2019 want to celebrate the songs from this record from 1986 with a special concert 40 years later on an evening in London.

On September 5th, Simon Brenner, the band’s founding keyboardist, as well as Phil Ramocon and Ian Curnow will come together for a one-off concert at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town, where they will also play “The Color Of Spring” in its entirety.

Talk Talk gets reinforcements on stage

Also on stage will be Sophie Barker (Zero 7), Gale Paridjanian (Turin Brakes), Tim Eisenburg (Sweet Billy Pilgrim), Chris Hampson and Jacob Brown. Ed Harcourt and Fyfe Dangerfield from the Guillemots, both of whom will also appear as supporting acts, will also appear on individual songs, as will Mark Gardener from Ride.

Tickets are already available. They are available from 36 pounds (41 euros).

ROLLING STONE editor Arne Willander wrote about “The Color Of Spring”: A pop masterpiece that was celebrated at the time but far too rarely sung about and one of the greatest albums of the 80s: With the symphonic, psychedelic power of “Life’s What You Make It” and “Living In Another World,” Talk Talk even surpassed their earlier monster singles, “I Don’t Believe In You” and the dabbed “April 5th” are equally magnificent. At best, “Give It Up” doesn’t soar into the stratospheres of never-heard pop symphonies.
