The talk show stars of RTL 4 are already holiday champions, but now they are making it very colorful: they are all gone at the same time! “This is an embarrassment”, says television expert Rob Goossens.
Where most people work all year round with the occasional children’s holiday or day off, they keep a completely different kind of calendar in Hilversum. After a few months, the TV stars always pretend that their year is already over and they start shouting from their beach bed in Curaçao that we should pay more attention to the climate.
Everyone on vacation
At RTL 4 they make it very colorful. Everyone there is now suffering from the Jinek virus. Not only Eva is on holiday, but also her talk show colleagues Beau van Erven Dorens, Humberto Tan and Renze Klamer. The consequence? The country’s largest commercial channel is broadcasting some late-night reruns this month.
Rob Goossens thinks it is unprecedented that RTL 4 broadcasts old junk while competitor NPO 1 continues all summer. “If you have four presenters, it’s really, I’d say, a shame that you can’t be seen all year. In that regard, they will have to come up with something, as far as I’m concerned, to solve that,” he says in RTL Boulevard.

Actually, RTL 4’s plan was to continue with talk shows all summer. Renze Klamer would not be on channel the whole month of July, but the whole month of August. And Humberto Tan would then present in July. In the end it was decided not to do this, because the team had a holiday need.
Rob: “It just so happened that the people who were just really ready for a holiday didn’t come out to broadcast in August. I understand it, but also there: the viewer has no compassion, because the repeats on the talk show slot of RTL 4 are not doing very spectacularly well.”
Bare and angry
Repetitions no longer work in 2022, Rob notes. He points to the current catastrophe on SBS 6. The viewership there is so low that no one will be surprised if it turns out negative next week. “That is really bad and angry. The time when the viewer is like: then I’ll just watch that, it’s really over. We have too many options for that.”
He continues: “It is silly to have to name her, but Linda de Mol is really the ultimate low point. Her drama series Deep Grounds was repeated last week and only had 87 thousand viewers.

Linda de Mol thus achieved her lowest prime time viewing figures ever. “That’s really just too little. He is also on Videoland. That must be part of the bad luck and misery, because the people who want to see it can watch it there without advertising.”
Rob sympathizes very much with Linda. “You don’t wish that on anyone.”
