At the age of 23, many of the ski jumping career really picks up speed. With David Haagen, on the other hand, an end.

The Austrian ski jumper David Haagen ended his career at the age of 23. He announced that on Instagram. “Every chapter comes to an end. Some already knew it, others know now: for me it is time to complete this chapter,” said Haagen

The decision to end his career was a very difficult one. “Of course it is not an easy decision to give up something that I have been doing so much in the last 17 years of my life, but in the past few months and years there have been more and more things that have led to this decision that I have now made.”

Haagen left open which these “things” are concrete. He also did not deal with what he was going to do in the future in his post. Instead, he wrote: “I am very grateful for the moments, friends and memories that I collected in this long time, I will never forget many of them. Even if it was not always easy, ski jumping will always have a place in my heart.”

Haagen has only collected success in the youth area. His greatest success: second at the Junior World Cup 2022, behind its Austrian teammate Daniel Tschofenig. After the World Cup, the paths of the two young stars separated abruptly. Haagen did not prevail in the professional area, on the other hand, Tschofenig only won the legendary four -hill tour in January 2025.
