Geert Wilders, leader of the Party for Freedom (PVV), was on Monday evening in Zoutkamp to say that the residents there ‘want to support against the asylum drama’.
Hundreds of people came to the village to take a picture with the PVV leader.
After the visit, Wilders spoke on Twitter of a ‘justified resistance against 1100 asylum seekers in their beautiful village of 1200 inhabitants.’
Since the opening, residents of Zoutkamp have complained about nuisance and an unsafe feeling. The owner of the supermarket, for example, catches asylum seekers stealing every day. On Wednesday, a shop opened at the Marnewaard, run by volunteers. For example, asylum seekers are discouraged from leaving the site.
