The Hague city hall was evacuated at the end of the morning on Thursday due to “a suspicious situation”. It is not yet known at this time what exactly happened. In any case, everyone was asked to leave the building. A police arrest team was quickly on site and a police helicopter flew around.

The streets around the town hall were reopened around 12:30 p.m., according to an ANP reporter on site. A diversion of trams and buses in the area has also been lifted again. People are not yet allowed to enter the library and the town hall itself, which means the streets are still very busy.

Bomb threat?

Several sources report to the AD that it could possibly be a bomb threat. “There was one man left with a backpack,” says an employee at the municipal counter about the evacuation. “I’ve never experienced this before. They take it very seriously.”

Members of the DSI (Special Interventions Service) were able to arrest the suspicious man in the city hall. He was handcuffed and blindfolded in his underpants and taken to the police station for further questioning, reports ‘District8’. His belongings, including a backpack, were confiscated by the police.

It concerns a 28-year-old man from The Hague itself who is known to the police as someone with misunderstood behavior.
