The President is seen in the Mother’s Day episode of the Tähdet, tähdet program Tarja Halonen. Halonen acts as a guest judge and freely shares his opinions about the shows.
The theme of the episode is love songs. Halonen seems like an opera singer Aarne Pelkonen interpretation. He presents in the program Fred’s So much goes into love – a classic.
Halonen praises Pelko after the performance.
– A wonderful baritone puts us in a good loving mood, President Halonen assessed the first performance of the evening.
Before the songs, the contestants receive personal video greetings from different parts of the world and hear stories of motherly love in the midst of wars and crises. One of the most touching moments of the evening is seen when the Ukrainian Kseniia (name changed) tells what it’s like to raise her children in a war-torn country.
– It is really difficult to be a mother in Ukraine now. It is important to talk to the child. He must know safety instructions when he is alone at home: where to hide in case of an explosion, he must know the basics of first aid. Our child knows what a tourniquet is, he knows how to hide behind two walls during an airstrike, says Kseniia.
In Ukraine, thousands of schools have been destroyed or damaged during the war. Many schools offer teaching only online because schools do not have safe bomb shelters. Ksenia’s daughter studied remotely until the 5th grade.
– The children have not learned to communicate with each other. It turned out to be a tragedy. They don’t know how to behave in class or in groups. It’s a big challenge, says Kseniia.
Save the Children’s long-term supporter Tarja Halonen talks about the importance of helping children.
– They are small people today, they should be helped because they are the most vulnerable. They are also the future of the world, and in that sense we will hopefully build a better future with their help.
