Taha Akgül, Süleyman Atlı and Feyzullah Aktürk reached the finals in the European Wrestling Championship!



In the European Wrestling Championship held in Hungary, national men’s freestyle athletes Taha Akgül, Süleyman Atlı and Feyzullah Aktürk made it to the final.


In the organization held in the capital Budapest, semi-final competitions were held in men’s freestyle 61, 74, 86, 92 and 125 kilograms. 3 of the 4 national wrestlers who made it to the semi-finals succeeded in reaching the final.


Olympic champion Taha Akgül defeated Daniel Ligeti of the host country with a technical superiority of 10-0 in the 125 kg semi-final and advanced to the final. Taha, who came to Hungary for the 9th European championship, will face Georgian Geno Petriashvili in the final.


Having won two European championships, Süleyman Atlı made his mark in the final by beating Bulgarian Georgi Valentinov Vangelov 6-3 in the 61 kg semi-final. Wrestling for the first time at 61 kg, Süleyman will face Armenian Arsen Harutyunyan in the final.


Defeating Georgian Miriani Maisuradze 5-2 in the 92 kg semi-finals, European champion under 23 years old Feyzullah Aktürk also qualified for the gold medal match. Feyzullah, who participated in the European Wrestling Championship for the first time in seniors, became the opponent of Bulgarian Ahmed Sultanovich Bataev in the final.


Representing Turkey in the 86 kg category, Osman Göçen faced Myles Nazem Amine from San Marino, who won the bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics, in the semi-finals. The match was tied 6-6, and Amine from San Marino, who got the last point, advanced to the final. Osman will play a bronze medal match with Israeli Uri Kalashnikov tomorrow.


On the other hand, Soner Demirtaş, who could not complete the 74 kg quarter-final match with Cuban-born Italian Frank Chamizo Marquez due to a knee injury, earned the repechage right after Marquez advanced to the final. Soner will face Georgian Giorgi Sulava in case he enters the competition.


Medal matches will be held tomorrow in the men’s freestyle 61, 74, 86, 92 and 125 kilograms.
