Jonathan Tah’s contract with Bayer Leverkusen expires at the end of the season. What happens next for the national player is unclear. A move to FC Bayern is out of the question for Dietmar Hamann.
“I think it’s impossible for him to go to Bayern in the summer. I just can’t imagine that,” said Hamann on “Sky”.
The background is the failed transfer last summer. The people of Munich are said to have already reached an agreement with Tah. However, the deal did not come about because those responsible at Bayer Leverkusen and those at FC Bayern could not agree on a transfer fee.
For a player, this scenario is “the worst possible thing.” However, the Bayer fans have forgiven Tah to a certain extent, according to Hamann: “It probably wouldn’t have been so easy at another club.”
Tahs will most likely leave Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer in the summer. It is not yet clear where the defender will go.
Is Tah heading to the Premier League?
“It’s clear that there’s a big market for the player. He’s available for free and is in the best age for a central defender,” emphasized Hamann and added: “I could imagine that a lot of people in England are interested because he’s a physically strong and is a very fast player. They love players like that on the island.”
Tah himself commented on the speculation about his future on Saturday after Saturday’s Bundesliga win against FC St. Pauli (2-1).
“I’m taking my time with this. I understand that there’s a lot of speculation going on right now,” said the 28-year-old: “It’s clear to me that I’ll make my decision at some point next year.”
Before the game against St. Pauli, Leverkusen’s sports director Simon Rolfes called for the defense chief to stay. “The door is open for Jona and he knows that. Of course the situation is such that the contract expires and he normally leaves,” said Rolfes on “Sky”, “but sometimes things change in football.”
