The TTF Ochsenhausen have won the German table tennis cup for the fifth time. In the final there was a win against 1. FC Saarbrücken.

The Baden-Württemberg team sat down in the final of the Final Fourtournament in Neu-Ulm with 3:1 against Champions League-Winner for national player Patrick Franziska.

Franziska initially gave Saarbrücken the lead. The tenth in the world rankings easily beat Frenchman Simon Gauzy, third in the Paris team with the Lebrun brothers Alexis and Felix, 3-0 (11:8, 12:10, 13:11). Hugo Calderano, the Slovenian, struck back for Ochsenhausen Europe Top 16 Cup-Winner Darko Jorgic was only able to pose a threat to the Brazilian at times in the 3:1 (11:6, 11:2, 8:11, 11:9).

Third single is the sticking point

The third single became the sticking point. Ochsenhausen’s Japanese Shunsuke Togami fended off three match points against the Romanian Eduard Ionescu when the score was 1:2 sets and won the five-set thriller 3:2 (9:11, 11:7, 6:11, 12:10, 11: 6) and gave the table tennis fans an excellent starting point in front of 4,500 spectators. Calderano was now able to complete the triumph in the final individual, and the Olympic fourth-place finisher couldn’t miss that with a 3-0 (12:10, 11:7, 11:8) win over Franziska.

Bremen and Bad Homburg failed in the semi-finals

Ochsenhausen won the title from 2003 to 2005 and most recently in 2019. Last year, the four-time champions were eliminated in the semi-finals against Saarbrücken, who then lost in the final against Borussia Düsseldorf. The record winner around Idol Timo Boll failed in the round of 16 of the 65th edition to TTC Fulda-Maberzell and Dimitrij Ovtcharov. The Saarlanders missed their third cup success after 2012 and 2022.

In the semi-finals at midday, Saarbrücken defeated Werder Bremen 3-1. Ochsenhausen, which is only 35 kilometers as the crow flies from the venue in Neu-Ulm, also reached the final 3-1 against Final Four debutants TTC Bad Homburg.
