Table tennis: Düsseldorf celebrates autumn championship

Defending champions Borussia Düsseldorf have already been confirmed as autumn champions in the table tennis Bundesliga.

The record champion kept his clean sheet on the ninth day of the game, even without the paused European Championship record winner Timo Boll, with a 3-0 summit meeting with cup winner and runner-up 1. FC Saarbrücken and is therefore no longer at the top of the table in the last two rounds of the first half of the season push away.

Düsseldorf’s lead over Saarbrücken and TTC Neu-Ulm is six points. Ex-title holder TTF Ochsenhausen is behind with a game less and two more points behind in fourth and final play-off place.

In the top game, neither Düsseldorf nor Saarbrücken put their cards on the table four weeks before their semi-final duel in the cup finals on January 8th in Neu-Ulm. Düsseldorf’s points in the repeat of last season’s final were taken by European champion Dang Qiu, who was still unbeaten in the top flight, as well as Swede Anton Källberg and Indian veteran Sharath Kamal Achanta.
