Syrian army claims to have repulsed Israeli missile attack near Damascus

The Syrian air defense system repelled an Israeli missile attack on certain points in the vicinity of the country’s capital Damascus, says in a statement by the Syrian Arab Army.

According to the military, the incident occurred on the night of February 9. At about 00:56 local time (23:56 February 8 Moscow time), Israel launched air strikes from a point southeast of the capital of Lebanon – the city of Beirut, and by 01:10 local time (00:10 Moscow time) the Israeli armed forces attacked the outskirts of the Syrian capital from the Golan Heights.

“Our air defense systems resisted the aggressor’s missiles and shot down some of them,” the ministry said.

This is not the first time Syria has accused Israel of rocket attacks on the country’s facilities and infrastructure. At the end of December 2021, the Syrian Arab Army reported a strike on a commercial port in Latakia, missiles hit a container site. As a result, a fire broke out in the port, which, according to the military, caused “great material damage” to the country.
