There is currently a lot of attention for women who are victims of spicy fake videos. Their faces are pasted into revealing videos to entice horny internet users. Welmoed Sijtsma is currently making a program about it on NPO 3 and that is why she was in the talk show Khalid & Sophie yesterday.

assault

Sylvana Simons also spoke during that interview, namely via a video connection from The Hague. She also appears to be the victim of such a video. “It is twofold. I didn’t see him, quite consciously. I don’t think I want to, but it sure feels like my privacy has been invaded nonetheless.”

She continues: “It feels like assault. Someone makes off with your identity, with your being, with your body, with your face and appearance and does what that person wants. That really feels like assault.”

No declaration

Has Sylvana already filed a report? “I haven’t filed a report yet, also because I haven’t looked myself yet. When I spoke to Welmoed about this for her documentary, I also honestly admitted that I sometimes feel that because of my position and everything I’ve been through over the last five to eight years, I’ve also been a bit groggy.”

She continues: “That I’ve been confronted before with what it’s like when someone shops your face in a video, for example, so yes… Maybe I should get over it for a while, because I think it’s really bad.”

Symptom

In fact, according to Sylvana, it is best if the underlying problem is tackled. “This is a symptom of a much bigger problem where we’re talking about – yes, there it is again – toxic masculinity, where the idea of ’do what you want with women’s bodies’, you can trade that, you can use that…”

“We will all have to have a very good conversation about that.”
