Sydney Sweeney on the red carpet at Variety’s Power of Women 2025

The award was presented to Sydney by her colleague Sharon Stonewith her also on the red carpet of the event. The 28-year-old, determined to ignore the controversies of recent weeks, focused her speech on the pioneer of women’s boxing Christy Martinwhich she played in the film Christy, her most courageous challenge.

“I’m not a fighter in the ring, but I recognized something of Christy in me. I know what it’s like to be underestimated, to have people define you before you’ve had a chance to define yourself. I know what it’s like to have to prove that you deserve to be here, to be seen, to be taken seriously. We each have our own battle.
